A Quick Bible Read Is Often All It Takes

A Quick Bible Read

A quick Bible read is sometimes all we can manage in the midst of a busy day, but it’s better that than not at all.  “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).  So, even a brief read before heading out for work or just a chapter or two before bed can help in a much bigger way than you think.

A quick Bible read fits well with a reading plan I heard of some years ago.  One of the members of the district council for our denomination came one Sunday and gave the sermon, and he said he reads one chapter in Psalms and one chapter in Proverbs every day.  That is good advice that will stand us in good stead but of course we have to read more than just Proverbs and Psalms, but for a quick Bible read this is a good plan.

A quick Bible read can be just one or two chapters a day.  Almost everyone can carve out 10 or 15 minutes to nourish their soul.  For what profits a man to gain the whole world if he loses his soul (Mark 8:36)?  Another approach I like to take is to simply ask God to show me what He wants me to know, then I simply open my Bible and see what is there for me.

One morning I had a vision of me doing a quick Bible read, and it was very specific as to what I was to read it with.  In the vision, I was reading my Bible on my Nook, which was my habit at that time.  I went and retrieved my Nook and sat down to read right where I had left off at Colossians and read through to Timothy.  It was the right word for a rough time.  A quick Bible read that set the tone for my day.

A quick Bible read can be life changing sometimes.  Perhaps God has been trying to get your attention, yet you haven’t been listening?  When you open God’s Word, the Author is right there with you, speaking right to your heart, revealing His plan for your life, even.  When you don’t understand, ask Him to reveal the meaning.  It might take some time, probably trouble on our end, but if you seek and keep on seeking, you will find light, and hope, understanding.

A quick Bible read can put the right message in your heart for someone God wants you minister to.  I can’t count all the times something came across my path during the day that was directly related to my quick Bible read that day!  He goes before us to prepare the way that will bring much-needed healing or compassion to someone in need to let them know He cares.  Will you be His messenger?
